Milestone Breakthrough at TPS
For the first time, 100 kilograms of aluminum were successfully melted in Freiberg.
On May 15, 2025, TPS achieved a significant technological milestone: for the first time, 100 kilograms of aluminum were successfully melted in Freiberg using a self-developed plasma torch—completely without the use of natural gas. Instead, the required heat was introduced into the furnace purely electrically via plasma.
This milestone not only represents progress in the development of sustainable high-temperature processes but also marks an important step toward the decarbonization of the metal industry.
The complete electrification of the melting process impressively demonstrates the potential of plasma technology—especially in terms of energy efficiency and CO₂ reduction.
The next step is the systematic investigation of process parameters: How do different settings affect metallurgy and system performance? These insights will be crucial for further optimizing the technology and scaling it for industrial use.
Together, we are shaping the future of metal processing—efficient, electric, and emission-free.
